Avoid Filing Your Taxes Late

Late filing penalties and interest will add up fast.

Taxpayers who fail to file an extension and file more than five months late, will usually pay about 25% in penalties and interest.  Don't fail to file even though you're late.

Every month a tax return is filed late, the IRS charges a 5% penalty each and every month. The maximum is a 25% penalty.
